Useful LinksPrincipal Jason RichardsonGreetings Glenwood Elementary Community, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year. My name is Jason Richardson, and I am thrilled to be your new principal. It is with great excitement that I am returning to San Rafael City Schools. It was within the San Rafael City Schools district that I began my career as an educator 17 years ago, teaching at Coleman and then at Davidson. For the past 4 years I have served as Principal of Bolinas-Stinson School. Prior to that I was Principal of Manor Elementary School in Fairfax, where I live with my wife and two daughters. I feel a strong sense of homecoming as your new principal, even though I am new and unknown to the Glenwood community, and I feel tremendous gratitude for the warm welcome that I have already received. I am really enthusiastic about this terrific opportunity to serve your beautiful community. Within these words that I write, I pledge to you my full attention, energy and willingness to help you and the children of the Glenwood community in whatever way that I am able. I firmly believe that all of us as educators have the duty to serve the needs of all the children in our community in a way that improves our local community and the greater society in which we are all members. When we foster in our children the capacity to think, feel and communicate in ways that are productive, positive, and peaceful, our local community and our greater society improve. We all benefit when we teach our children to care for themselves and others and to respect the learning, growth and development of each one of us while respecting our environment. With great joy and enthusiasm I am looking forward to the coming school year. I wish to communicate to you that my office door is open and I want to get to know you. You can always call the school office at 485-2430 or email me at jrichardson@srcs.org We have an amazing school. I look forward to collaboratively supporting the excellent teaching and programs already in place and pursuing the community and district goals for continuous improvement to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all of our students. I am counting on your participation in this process. This is going to be a year full of positive growth and learning for us all. Glenwood receives the Golden Ribbon!
SACRAMENTO—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson today announced that 780 elementary schools are being honored under the Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program
"These schools shine as bright beacons for others, putting forth an exemplary effort to ensure that every student is ready for 21st century college and careers," Torlakson said. "California teachers are developing an education model for the nation, training the students of today to be the problem-solvers, inventors, and pioneers of tomorrow."
The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools in place of the California Distinguished Schools Program, which is on hiatus while California creates new assessment and accountability systems. Nearly 6,000 elementary schools were eligible to apply this year.
Schools applied for the award based on a model program or practice their school has adopted that includes standards-based activities, projects, strategies, and practices that can be replicated by other local educational agencies. The award recognized middle and high schools last year.
The Gold Ribbon Awards recognize California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. These include the California Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, California English Language Development Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
Please visit the California Gold Ribbon Schools Program on the California Department of Education's (CDE's) Web site for more information. |
