Dear Glenwood Families,
I'm so excited to be back at Glenwood and I'm really looking forward to the musical adventure we're about to embark upon. Yes, this is way too long but it has lot's of information so please take a moment to read. I'll keep you posted of events and happenings in our music world from time to time and I promise not to clutter your inbox.
My program has a simple mission. To help develop a curiosity and a life time love of all music. As most of you know my program is based heavily on singing. The joy and power of singing together as a group or solo is, in my humble opinion, second to non in the world of musical experiences (see the article I posted on the GW facebook page).
In class I emphasise ear training, rhythm, movement and music appreciation across all grades using pop music, both vintage and contemporary, to connect with the children. We will also be listening to classical and jazz as well as music from all around the world.
- K 1. Ear training. Learning how to really "listen" to song, to recognize instruments, and to recognise when we are and are not singing with the right pitch
- Grades 2 and 3 will be doing all the above as well as working on a rhythm/drumming unit after the holidays.
- 4th and 5th will start on a ukulele unit in November and a drum unit in January.
- 5th grade will help write a new school song using the skills we developed in our electronic music class.
Email me for more info about any of the above. email@example.com. That's it for now.
